Traditional sports never spoke to Sonia Flaherty. But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been a challenger in other areas of life.

“I’ve never competed in a formal sport, but I consider myself a lifelong competitor in a different arena—the pursuit of strength, health, and self-mastery,” she explains. “My ‘competition’ is against self-doubt, comparison, and limitations, both my own and those my clients face. Every day I train, teach, and lead by example is a win.”

In her career as a personal trainer, health coach, and menopause coach, Sonia helps women regain their strength, confidence, and sense of self, an accomplishment that “fuels” her. “I’m motivated by the transformation that happens not just in their bodies, but in their mindset,” she explains. “Knowing I get to play a part in that kind of empowerment keeps me driven every single day. I’m not just changing bodies—I’m helping women rewrite their stories.”

Outside her job, Sonia leans into fitness as a personal comfort and way in which to reward herself, all while helping increase her self-esteem. After experiencing several heartbreaking miscarriages and coming to the realization that she wouldn’t be able to have children of her own, it was in the gym where she found solace.

“During that time, fitness became my safe space,” says Sonia. “It helped me to heal, find clarity, and rebuild not just my body, but my spirit. It reminded me that I could still make an impact on other peoples’ lives, even though motherhood didn’t happen the way I had envisioned.”

"I’m not just changing bodies—
I’m helping women rewrite their stories."

Fast forward more than 30 years later, and she found herself in another era of change when her marriage ended. Thankfully, Sonia dug deep and found newfound strength—both emotional and physical—in this new chapter of her life. Today, the lesson that fitness is more than just a physical transformation is one she holds dear, and one that she brings to the women she coaches.

Sonia is excited to affect even more people with some in-the-works projects on the horizon, including a fitness and wellness app designed to support women through all stages of midlife.

“It’s more than just a workout,” she explains. “It’s a platform that will offer mindset coaching, nutritional guidance, and real community. My mission is to help women feel empowered, strong, and seen, and this app is the next step in creating that impact on a larger scale.” Users of the app will benefit not only from Sonia’s knowledge but from her life experiences, many of which the average woman can relate to.

“I’m not just a coach; I’m a mentor, motivator, and a safe place for women to land. I’ve walked through pain, reinvention, and powerful transformation, and I use those life lessons to connect on a real level.

“I believe fitness should feel empowering, not intimidating,” she notes. “My clients aren’t just training their bodies; they’re rebuilding belief in themselves. I show up with compassion, realness, and a deep passion for helping women realize they are stronger than they ever imagined.”
